  1. The Triathlon is a seven-cell, zero-porosity ram-air parachute; designed for skydivers who want one parachute that does it all. Selecting a new main parachute can be a confusing task, with many variables to consider during the decision process. Until now, choosing a main parachute has always involved making some sort of compromise. The fact is...all other parachutes are quite specialized and limited in their abilities.

    Pilot

    The name says it all... A canopy designed by pilots for pilots. When we made our “wish list” for an ultimately versatile canopy, we came up with terms that were echoed by canopy pilots around the world. Of course the list included characteristics like: consistent openings, excellent glide, predictable, responsive turns and great landings, but these are the “buzz words” that every equipment manufacturer uses. This is the analytical answer to the question. But experiencing canopy flight is more than just analysis. We had to try harder. When we pushed farther, and were really willing to listen, we started hearing the more important needs, the soul of the pilot. We heard terms like “effortless”, “fun”, “confidence”, “reliability”, and “safety”. We had finally reached the heart of a pilot. We designed our Pilot to meet these needs. Our engineering and development team worked for well over a year developing and testing this new canopy. We can now say, we have the ultimate in versatile canopies that you have been looking for. If you are looking for a canopy that you can truly enjoy, without the need to “work at it”, then the Pilot is the canopy you have been waiting for. “Try one on for size”, trust your feelings and you will not be disappointed.     A2

    The A2 was designed to be the workhorse of your tandem operation. It is the tandem canopy you have been looking for but could never find, until now. The A2 is an elliptical 9-cell canopy, built with a combination of zero-porosity and 0-3 cfm fabric. Its airfoil and moderate planform factor guarantee superb handling characteristics, to minimize the workload of tandem masters. Not only will they find the toggle pressure, turn response and flare power they have been seeking, but they will be pleasantly surprised by the soft on-heading openings.
  4. The Smart reserve combines more than 30 year of experience in the parachute industry and incorporates the latest 7-cell technology. Thousands of real life cutaways and landings are testimony to the quick and reliable openings, the solid flight performance and the powerful landing flare. The construction of the Smart uses high tensile strength 0-3 cfm low porosity ripstop fabric, spectra suspension lines and ample reinforcement tapes. Extra strength is obtained through the use of lateral reinforcement tapes between the line attachment points as well load distribution tapes that radiate from the steering line attachment points. All this has resulted in a reserve parachute that will withstand the shock loads related with today’s higher freefall speeds and still offer acceptable opening forces for the jumper. It also offers amazing glide performance for a 7-cell, which greatly improves one’s chances to reach a favorable landing spot. Another safety aspect of the Smart is the relatively long toggle stroke. This reduces the risk of an unwanted stall during the landing flare, a phenomenon often observed with other designs. As a matter of fact, our engineers have built flight characteristics into the Smart that are similar to those of today’s main canopies. This helps a nervous jumper to handle the situation and make a safe landing. Following subjection to the most severe tests and the auditing of our production facilities, the Smart is certified under the US FAA TSO-C23d and it meets the standards of the European ETSO-C23d. With this reserve on your back you will do better than just look Smart! Exciting features: One of the few reserves approved under the latest TSO-C23d. It also meets the standards of the European JTSO. Tested far beyond the requirements for deployment weight and speed. The Smart is manufactured under the strict ISO 9001 quality management system.     Pilot7

    When you have a famous name, there is an expectation to live up to it. This has certainly influenced our design of the Pilot7. The Pilot 9-cell canopy has built a solid reputation for great openings, flat glide and a powerful flare. The new Pilot7 needed to be pretty special to be worthy of the name Pilot. It is. The Pilot7 is probably the best wingsuit canopy made. It provides superbly consistent openings, which inspires confidence in everyone, from a beginning wingsuit flyer to a world champion (and several of both are happy Pilot7 flyers). In flight, you will find the Pilot7 an agile and fun canopy. It is predictable enough that it encourages you to wring it out and play. It has a flat glide and a powerful flare, likely more so than any 7-cell you’ve experienced. We make the canopy in standard ZP, in our honeycomb low pack volume ZPX, and in a new alchemy of materials we call UltraLPV. This builds the top skin and stabilizers from ZPX, and the ribs and bottom skin from FX-11 (the low pack volume material used in the SmartLPV). We use the ZLX lines to create an amazingly low pack volume canopy. While we know wingsuit flyers love a great opening 7-cell available with unprecedentedly low pack volume, we also expect that there will be a demand from a broader spectrum of the skydiving community. Students, younger jumpers, and older jumpers will all benefit from the forgiving openings, low pack volumes and great handling characteristics of the Pilot7.

    Sensei

    Nearly ten years in research and development make the Sensei Project the longest test-piloting program of any ram-air canopy in history. Now Aerodyne Research has teamed with master designer Brian Germain to bring this elegant canopy design to the marketplace. In order to shave some of the increased drag experienced at high speeds, the Sensei uses a 21-cell cross-braced infrastructure. This makes it a beautifully proportioned wing, configured into seven cells. Twenty eight tiny but incredibly strong suspension lines constructed of High Modulus Aramid fiber are coated for extra wear resistance. These low drag lines are essential for preservation of energy. We know you worked hard for your airspeed, and we want you to keep it all the way to the entry gate. The carefully sculpted airfoil is a novel "Fat-Tail" design, with a greater thickness at the trailing edge to create superior stability when maneuvering with rear risers, especially when pulling high Gs around the corner, down in the power band. The reduced span at the trailing edge makes the canopy more responsive to toggle input during ground effect and throughout the flare. The Sensei comes with your choice of 350 or 450 HMA lines.

    Zulu

    The Zulu is a fully elliptical, non cross-braced canopy. Quite a bit faster and more aggressive than our Pilot, but very well mannered.. Great openings, very fast turns, powerful bottom end flare..

    Solo

    The Solo is truly a complete student main. When it is time for your students to fly Solo, this is the canopy. The Aerodyne Solo. It is all about confidence and reliability. Whether you are a drop zone owner or a first jump student, the last thing you need to be concerned with is your equipment. The Solo student canopy can give you that confidence. Strong where it needs to be, forgiving when it has to be, the Solo provides all of the characteristics needed for successful student training. The Solo is durable, with extra reinforcement, while being easy to pack. Its opening flight and landing characteristics have been tailored to allow you to teach your students proper modern piloting techniques. This has become vitally important in today’s world of high performance canopies. We have even considered the difficult transition path from student to novice and beyond. As the student becomes more experienced and is prepared to downsize, the Solo’s design allows for a natural transition to our Pilot canopy. This allows the novice canopy pilot an easy and straightforward transition from student equipment to their own, without the need to “re-learn” the canopy’s characteristics. This provides a much safer and more enjoyable transition, with continued learning. We have even built in visual cues to allow for easier PRO packing training. By utilizing color-coded line attachments, the student learns proper packing techniques in much less time and with greater confidence.
  10. A symbol for a new age in student, harness container evolution. That was our goal while developing the Icon Student. Student training is becoming more diverse, and the demands placed upon student equipment have become greater. At the same time student’s are more concerned with safety and comfort than ever. Of course we had to build a reliable, durable, and comfortable student container, but the Icon Student had to be more. We had to develop new technology in order to address the current and future needs of students and drop zone operators around the world. Our development team had to consider many things that most of us would rather not think about. Possibilities like: unintentional reserve deployments at high speeds, high “g-force” spinning malfunctions of main canopies, harsh student training environments and treatment, among others. Not pleasant thoughts, but when designing a new harness/container system, we had to look at every aspect. We think you will like the result. The Icon Student not only provides you with a comfortable, reliable and, durable container, it also incorporates new technology, not found on any other system in the world.

    Mamba

    The Aerodyne Mamba is the ultimate high performance 9 cell elliptical designed with the more experienced pilot in mind that isn't looking for all the costs and pack volume issues associated with cross braced canopies. It is intended to compete with canopies like the Katana and Crossfire.

    Smart

    Our team knows reserves. We have been involved with the design and production of more sport reserves than any other group in our industry. When we set about designing a new reserve from concept, we used this experience to the fullest. Reserves are about a few important things: safety, reliability, and performance. Our new reserve is tested far beyond the minimum requirements of the latest US TSO (c23d) as well as the European standards (JTSO). We manufacture the Smart under the strictest international quality management program (ISO 9001). Few, if any, other manufacturers currently hold this difficult certification. The Smart is constructed chordwise with additional spanwise reinforcement. After studying various failure modes of existing reserve designs, Aerodyne is the first manufacturer to incorporate radial reinforcement into the tail of the Smart reserve as well. All of this adds up to what we believe is the world’s strongest reserve. Again after studying existing reserve designs, we found the aerodynamics in use to be quite out of step with current technology. This was no surprise, as there has not been a new sport reserve design in some time. Since the Smart reserve was developed from initial concept, we were not constrained. We applied the most modern aerodynamic solutions to the problems of reserve canopy deployment, flight and landing.

    Icon NeXgen

    1. Let’s begin with the leg pads. We have changed the geometry of the leg pads to improve the fit. The change removes the typical crease at the back of the leg pad when worn by a jumper. We have also widened the leg pad across the back of the leg for improved comfort, and narrowed it as it comes into the groin area. 2. We have also moved the hook knife location from the back of the leg strap to the front. This makes it more visible and less susceptible to accidentally being released when a leg strap grip is taken. And of course, we continue to supply the best hook knife in the industry, manufactured in the USA by Benchmade®. It incorporates an Oxygen bottle key, and a beverage opener, as well as a razor sharp hardened steel blade. 3. Moving up into the rig, we’ve redesigned the backpad, and incorporated an innovative pocket in the small of the back. The pocket holds the packing data card on one side and has the tso label on the other, easily accessible and secure. 4. We have made the main pin cover flap a separate piece that is now easily replaceable. 5. We have changed the construction of our riser blocks (which protect the corners of the reserve tray from catching a line on deployment). The new design is less rigid but still provides best in the industry protection. 6. Main deployment bag. On the smaller Icons, sizes I1-I3, we have changed to a three grommet deployment bag. This pulls the lines inboard and makes for a cleaner pack into the main tray. The larger Icons maintain the four grommet bag. 7. Ring Covers. We have modified the ring covers to a lower profile, and made them more easily replaceable. 8. Left side cutaway housing moved from inboard to outboard placement. This sends the housing away from the jumpers face in the event of a cutaway. 9. RSL lanyard retainer. We have redesigned our retainer to eliminate the Velcro. We have also simplified the tuck of the RSL slack, so that it stows in the housing sleeve. 10. Reserve container. We have made a number of minor changes to the reserve area; we will list these here: 10 a. Access for placing the reserve closing loop and the AAD control unit. In the prior Icon, this access was through the top of the tray at the yoke, and was at times very tight, particularly on the smaller rigs. The AAD cable was in the same space as the RSL cable and several housings. In the neXgen Icon, this access is in the reserve tray through an open ing under a small flap and provides better access and less congested space. The three photos below show the prior Icon setup in the first photo and the neXgen Icon in the other two, the yoke area and then the access slot in the tray underneath. 10 b. Reserve tray lining. We have lined the reserve tray in the neXgen Icon with parapack to minimize bag extraction forces. 10 c. Reserve kick plate. We have moved from the rectangular kick plate to a 5 inch round kick plate for the reserve pilot chute in the neXgen Icon. This change in size and shape makes a stronger plate which is more difficult to bend than the prior kickplate. 10 d. Reserve side flaps. We have lowered the reserve side flaps so that they are now even with the top of the tray. We have also raised the inboard side so they have a smaller gap than the prior Icon at the top of the reserve. 10 e. Reserve deployment bag. We have extended the buffer around the Velcro to provide extra protection for the reserve lines. 10 f. New Reserve Pins. We’ve moved to a cold forged stainless steel pin with a sharper point on the neXgen Icons. It’s stronger and more difficult to bend, and the sharper point makes it easier to feed into the closing loop. 10 g. New closing flap order. We’ve changed the order on the closing flaps, making the top reserve flap the final one, versus the bottom flap on the prior Icon. This makes the reserve pin lie flat rather than angling up from the lower flap to the higher flap. This lessens the need for pin protection, as the lower flap pocket now provides additional protection. We have kept a pin protector, but it is now a simple piece of webbing versus the more complex one on the prior Icon. 11. Magnetic Riser Covers. The neXgen Icon incorporates the most sophisticated magnetic riser covers in the marketplace. The magnets are placed into the rig during final inspection, with no sewing required. If the magnetic riser cover option is chosen, the rig will come with two sets of magnets on each side. These have proven effective to 245 miles an hour, making them sufficient for all belly, wingsuit and freefly disciplines. If customers want to pursue speed skydiving, then a third set of magnets can be added with no modification to the rig. We use square magnets and a stiffener behind them to minimize the rings of dirt that we’ve seen over time on competitor’s rigs with magnets. Our system uses a pocket on top and a tuck tab below.The top pocket and the tuck tab each incorporate magnets. 12. Introducing the neXgen Icon Long in sizes I1 through I4. We have added a long version of the Icon built to accommodate taller jumpers, or those who just prefer a longer and narrower rig. This places the bottom of the rig, and the deployment device lower on the jumper’s back. The Icon L uses a 19 inch back pad. The standard Icon back pad is 15 inches on an I1 and 17 inches on an I4. Thus the L version is 4 inches longer on an I1 and 2 inches longer on an I4.

    With the Icon our engineers have shown that security, durability and functionality can come to you in a harness-container system that is pleasing to the eye and very comfortable to wear. In freefall it is good to know you have a rig on your back. But when you wear an Icon you will want to check again, that’s how comfortable the fit is! Similarly the Icon greatly contributes to your appreciation of the canopy flight. It carries you in a way that supports your body in a natural sitting position and offers you maximum movement for canopy maneuvering.

    Vision

    Imagine the feel of flying a high performance canopy that is in tune with its pilot. Experience a Vision of flight, as you never have before. The Aerodyne Vision. Once again the Aerodyne development team refused to be bound by the "status quo". We wanted to address more than just the aerodynamics of high performance. Many who have preceded us have done this. We feel an equally important need to address the emotional side of canopy flight. How does the canopy feel, how does it respond to your commands, does it feel natural in flight, does it instill confidence? We want our designs to be extensions of the pilot, canopies that feel and look as good in flight as they do on a computer model, maybe even better. Is that possible? We know it is! This canopy is the embodiment of that goal. What better name for it than after the "Vision" that inspired us? The Vision is the canopy for those of you who share this desire with us. Those who want a bit more faster turns, higher speeds and longer swoops in a canopy that feels as though it can almost anticipate what you want it to do. We refer to this as "a natural feeling of high performance flight". What does this mean? Our best recommendation is to say: "Go out and try one for yourself".

    A-Max

    There are some in every crowd. They are a small group of individuals that feel the need to push the limits of body and equipment. It doesn’t matter if they are snowboarding down an untouched chute or swooping over water at the local drop zone. These pilots push the limits of speed, distance, and wing loading. We see them in competitions; their pictures are in magazines. They are always looking for the ultimate (fill in the blank). If you take it “to the max” then this is the canopy for you. Extremely small and agile, aerodynamically efficient and designed for higher wing loadings, the A-Max is the canopy designed for those of you we have dubbed the “maximists”. You understand the aerodynamics, but you fly by feel.
  18. The Hybrid is terrific for those jumpers who want a canopy adapted and reinforced for intermediate to advanced CRW that can also be comfortably deployed in free-fall. The Triathlon Hybrid airfoil is identical to the RW version with the addition of ¾ inch leading edge reinforcing tape and the proprietary Aerodyne Research 4-point retractable pilot chute system. Center 'A' and 'B' lines are non-cascaded and made of high-visibility red 900 pound Dacron.

    Diablo

    The Diablo opens an exciting new mainstream market segment between the seven-cell Triathlon-class canopies and the nine-cell elliptical class. It is the best of both worlds for skydivers who are looking for exhilarating flight characteristics--but do not want to suffer the bad habits associated with high aspect ratio ellipticals.
  20. The Triathlon Competition CRW Series are highly specialized parachutes designed exclusively for World-Championship level competition. This canopy uses the basic Triathlon airfoil--but has been highly modified for maximum CRW scoring performance by professional teams. The inlet is an open design with a modified sweep angle for maximum opening consistency and minimum inflation time. The canopy also features a mesh slider and tail-pocket deployment system.
