7 pointsThe funny thing is that at exactly the same time Brent is arguing that Fascism is Socialism, Winsor is arguing you should vote Fascist to prevent Socialism, and they will both back each other up without a hint of irony.

6 pointsYep. I saw that this morning. It was fun while it lasted, and I really wish it were as vibrant as it once was. To me it was a much more democratic (in the sense of participation) format than FB, Reddit, or whatever else is out there. There’s an awful lot of good information here Wendy P.

6 pointsPeople who state Harris can’t articulate anything seem to have prejudice/misogyny, comprehension problems or the inability to speak English. As for Joe 2.0, he’s done a pretty good job, peacefully handed over the reigns to a younger candidate. I’d say he’s a pretty good act to follow.

6 pointsReally? Biden created more jobs than Trump Biden created more manufacturing jobs than Trump Biden drilled more oil than Trump Biden had better stock market performance than Trump Biden added less debt than Trump The economy does better under Democrats and Democrats generally add less to the debt than Republicans. But sure, you don't go by feels, you go by facts.

5 pointsThis coming from the people who think vaccines don't work, that climate change is a Chinese hoax, that windmill cancer is a thing, that women can "shut down" a pregnancy if they are raped, and that Haitian immigrants are eating people's pets in Springfield. I prefer actual reality, even if alternative facts conform more closely to conservative agendas.

5 pointsIn 1939 it was illegal for black men to serve as pilots in the US military. Due to a DEI offensive from the NAACP, labor union leader A. Philip Randolph and Judge William H. Hastie, a war appropriations bill was passed containing funding to train black pilots. This effectively legitimized the use of black pilots by the US military. It was not without friction; a great many opposed it. Major General Frank O'Driscoll Hunter, for example, insisted that "racial friction will occur if colored and white pilots are trained together." But they persevered, and by the end of the war, this DEI squadron (also known as the Tuskeegee Airmen) flew almost 200 bomber protection missions, with a record of protecting bombers almost twice as well as the all-white squadrons flying at that time. Overall the squadron received one silver star, 96 Distinguished Flying Crosses,14 Bronze Stars, 744 Air Medals and at least 60 Purple Hearts. Proof of their unity, excellence and honor by any measure. Martha McSally was one of the first women to fly for the USAF in combat. She was able to do that as the result of a DEI effort to lift the prohibition against women in combat in 1991. She ended up as a decorated squadron leader before retiring and becoming a US representative, where she served for two years in Congress. She was part of several DEI lawsuits, including one against the DoD to end the requirement that women in the US military wear burqas when in public in Arab countries. She was also raped by a superior officer, but managed to overcome that and still become squadron leader during her time in the service. Leigh Ann Hester was a seargeant in the 617th Military Police Company. In 2005 the supply convoy she was guarding came under attack by at least 50 insurgents. She led her team to flank the attackers, and used grenades to end the threat. At the end, there were 27 dead and 6 insurgents, with no losses of the US supply team. She ended up with the Distinguished Service Cross. Again an indication of unity, excellence and honor. So I'd say that DEI has in fact done a lot for combat. It is why black people and women can now serve in the military. It has taken hard work, and overcoming the objections of people like General Hunter above, but we are all better off because of it.

5 pointsIt would be funny were it not so depressing that such people get to vote.
-
5 pointsI think it’s quite simple: he’d prefer a candidate who can just unzip their pants to get to 11.
-
5 pointsGOP: "Hey! Just because we gave women the right to vote, didn't mean we intended for them to vote for whoever they wanted!"
-
5 pointsIt’s really quite simple: you start with the conclusion, for example “Trump good, Libs bad”, and you just work backwards from there to try and twist the facts into that form…Pro Tip: this is easier if you do it with a complete disregard for facts and/or previous statements that you yourself have asserted as facts. It truly is a flawless strategy.

5 pointsA Rabbi is teaching his student the Talmud and explains god created everything in this world to be appreciated, since everything is here to teach us a lesson. The clever student asks “What lesson can we learn from atheists? Why did god create them?” The Rabbi responds “God created atheists to teach us the most important lesson of them all – the lesson of true compassion. You see, when an atheist performs an act of charity, visits someone who is sick, helps someone who is in need, and cares for the world, he is not doing so because of some religious teaching. He does not believe that god commanded him to perform this act. In fact, he does not believe in God at all, so his acts are based on an inner sense of morality. And look at the kindness he can bestow upon others simply because he feels it to be right.” “This means” the Rabbi continued “that when someone reaches out to you for help, you should never say ‘I pray that god will help you.’ instead for the moment, you should become an atheist, imagine that there is no god who can help, and say ‘I will help you.'”

4 pointsI understand how barcodes work, it was a metaphor. You continue to miss the point. I've said it repeatedly: it's not the issues so much as it's that Trump is an odious scumbag willing to harm anyone for an iota of personal gain. I will make money from his policies but I was happy to leave it on the table in exchange for being represented by an adult not a name calling bully who is both stupid and wide open to manipulation. It is there that we are different.

4 pointsBill, thanks as always for your efforts. But the sad truth is that those of us here who are vehement anti Trumpers have long been too aware of how autocrats are made and wouldn’t trade our freedom or anyone else’s for a few more coins in the purse. The rest of us here either don’t care or don’t have the capacity to understand what the new reality would be living under Trump ver.2. Sadder is that all we can do now is hope.

4 pointsOver 31,000 well documented LIES from Trump during his presidency. Tell us how Trump kept his word about having a plan to replace Obamacare. Tell us how Trump kept his word about releasing his tax returns. Tell us how Trump kept his word about Mexico paying for his wall. He said he wouldn’t have time to play golf if elected president. But he made more than 250 visits to his golf clubs — a record for any president. He promised to be “the voice” of American workers. He wasn’t. His administration stripped workers of their rights, repealed overtime protections, rolled back workplace safety rules, and turned a blind eye to employers who steal their workers’ wages. He promised that the average American family would see a $4,000 pay raise because of his tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. Trickle down didn't happen. He promised to bring down the price of prescription drugs and said drug companies are “getting away with murder.” He didn't do it. He promised to revive the coal industry and bring back lost coal mining jobs. The coal industry lost jobs. He promised to lock up Hillary Clinton for using a private email server. He didn’t. Instead, Trump used his personal cellphone for official business, and several members of his own administration, including Jared Kushner and Ivanka, used private email in the White House. He promised “six weeks of paid maternity leave to any mother with a newborn child whose employer does not provide the benefit.” He didn’t. He promised to bring an end to Kim Jong Un’s nuclear program. Kim expanded North Korea’s nuclear program. He said he would distance himself from his businesses while in office. He didn't. He promised that tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations would spur economic growth and pay for themselves. His tax cuts added $2 trillion to the federal deficit. The list of broken Trump promises goes on and on. And fools continue to believe him

3 pointsGenerally speaking knocking posters doesn’t add to the conversation. I’m not talking about your specific post. The ones I find most annoying is scrolling down half a page of ‘he’s on my kill list’, he’s blocked so I can’t see what he posts’ etc. Unfortunately for some time now most right wing leaning posters have been trolls out for a reaction. While I strongly disagree with the views of some of the recent posters, they have refreshingly not been trolling.

3 pointsHi folks, This is from a CNN reader: American citizens who voted for President Trump do not consider nor empathize for those who’ve suffered until they themselves are graced with misfortune. As I continue to say: It is all well & good until it is your ox that is getting gored. Just wait until they come for you, Jerry Baumchen

3 pointsIMO everyone who can benefit from higher ed. should get it and shouldn't depend on how wealthy your parents are. In the long run having a better educated population benefits all of society, and, in general, the better educated end up paying higher taxes so real feedback exists. (Clearly there are exceptions, such as real estate developers who defraud the government by fiddling the books. With luck the legal system will catch up with them in the end.) Exit poll demographics show very clearly the benefit of a college education to decision making at the polling booth.

3 pointsBrent before the election: I don’t even like Trump, honest, it’s just the economy! Brent after the election: Hell yeah, now let’s go kick some freaks!
-
3 pointsThere’s a lot to process. Over the past 25 years we’ve seen so many major events and changes. From 9/11 through the GFC and Covid. The election of Trump is/was quite likely fuelled by fear and uncertainty, for many of those who voted for him. At the same time, I think for the vast majority of the world his election brings on fear, anxiety and uncertainty of what is to come. It’s so easy to give into fear and obsess over what if’s. I’ve got a child in the military, and honestly I was already not very happy that he is going to see active conflict. Now I fear that it could be so much worse, because I don’t see Trump as a peace maker. There are posters here that are knowledgeable about history (Jakee, Billvon, Kallend to name a few) and the parallels with the history of facism and the rise of the nazies is scary. A large part of me wants to just switch off to it all and get on with life in blissful ignorance. I’m very lucky, I live in a place with no geopolitical significance and financially I have nothing to worry about. Ultimately I believe the right thing to do is to connect with those around us and do our best to rebuild a sense of community and support in challenging times.

3 pointsTrump can learn something from this African sh*thole country. The governing party in Botswana has just lost their elections for the first time since independence. This is the President's response: “Although I wanted to stay on as your president, I respect the will of the people and I congratulate the president-elect. I will step aside and I will support the new administration,” Masisi said at a press conference. From CNN

3 pointsOld couple had been married for 65 years and he was on his death bed. He tells the wife the combination to a safe that he had always told her to never look in. Inside the safe was $40,000 and three eggs. This of course puzzled her. She asked him what the three eggs & the $40,000 meant. He said, ‘Every time I was unfaithful to you I put an egg in the safe.’ She was not happy but said, 'I guess that’s not too bad for 35 years.' He continued, 'Every time I got a dozen eggs I sold them. That’s where the $40,000 came from.’ Jerry Baumchen

3 pointsYes, that's how Hitler worked it. "You are victims of the immigrants/liberals/woke people/Marxists who are stealing your jobs and killing you!" Never mind that Germans were killing THEM - indeed, one of the planks Hitler campaigned on was that he would not seek the death penalty for Germans who murdered immigrants. Trump is following the same path. Oh, Harris absolutely can. She is not a rapist or a felon. No one in her administration is now in jail for crimes against the United States. That is objectively "sucking less." Of course, that is only true in reality. In the MAGAverse where immigrants are eating all the cats and dogs, thousands of children are being forcibly converted to the opposite sex every day and Mexicans (not Trump) are raping American women - it all makes perfect sense. But how to mislead the people on that scale? Both Hitler and Trump have what Hitler called "the Big Lie." Hitler postulated that ordinary people wouldn't believe that he "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously." And indeed many did not; many Germans honestly believed that Jews were poisoning the blood of Germany, and would lead to its collapse. Trump has his "they are eating the dogs! They are eating the cats!" - and indeed, his followers regularly state things like "come on! He wouldn't lie about something like THAT." Goebbels put it this way: "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State." But to get the Big Lie out there you need a media apparatus, to "shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie." Hitler had Hugenberg, a media mogul who owned several newspapers and movie houses. They published papers and made movies about Hitler, all glowing and positive. Hitler playing with children. Hitler hiking, enjoying the beauty of nature. Hitler fighting for the common man. Trump, of course, has Rupert Murdoch and his media empire, who does the same thing for Trump. Trump working at a McDonald's just like ordinary Americans. Trump protecting Americans from MS13. Regular announcements how Trump won this debate or that poll. Supporting Trump because he's doing as good a job as Hitler did is not, IMO, a wise course to take. Even if he does promise to deal with the evil, scheming, criminal Jews immigrants.
-
3 pointsYes, clearly there are many Americans who would prefer a right wing dictator over social change that involves treating people of all kinds with respect and dignity. Hitler also was able to tap into people's innate tribalism and distrust of others. You have shown that you understand Trump's appeal and that of the MAGA fear mongers. What side are you going to choose? And please stop with the communist/socialist boogeyman drivel. In the current two party system in the US there is no socialist option. Just two different choices each dominated by capitalist ideology and each supported by various billionaires trying to become trillionaires.
-
3 pointsIncorrect. If none of those things existed, they would just make up some other boogieman to hate on.... kinda like you do. You cannot have fear and hatred without creating something to fear and hate
-
3 pointsI’m not going to say I’m surprised that you are a literal Nazi apologist, but I didn’t expect you to let your facade slip far enough to actually say it out loud. See that is actually a great point seeing as Harris is a paid up member of Antifa and BLM. Wait, she actually has nothing to do with them and you’re talking utter shite as usual? Go figure.

3 pointsHow is calling Trump supporters 'Deplorables' unacceptable? It was those people who tried to run a Biden campaign bus off the road in Texas. The sheriff who didn't respond to calls for help settled a lawsuit. The participants are facing one. It was those people who made death threats against the poll workers Trumpty Dumpty and his minions claimed falsified ballots. Giuliani lost a large lawsuit over that. And it was 'baskets of deplorables' who stormed the Capitol on Jan 6. What in those people's (and a LOT of others) behavior doesn't constitute 'deplorable'? It's one thing to point out behaviors that are not acceptable. It's 'a whole 'nother thing' to accuse people who don't agree with you of being 'enemies' and to threaten to send the military to kill them.
-
3 pointsThis dude doesn't have much of a backbone to stand up straight. "I don't want a king" but I support total immunity for Trump Trump: there is a concerted effort to bring him down. He is such a victim Clinton: If you've got money and power, you can get out of stuff. You'll say anything to keep your own biases alive. You don't stand for any facts, you don't understand truths, you just bend in the wind like a mindless drone. No wonder you are so excited by neuralink.
