Suggestions for DZs in West Central Germany

Hi Mark, >> If that is not the case an instructor will provide you with instructions what to do on your jumps >> (Sprungauftrag) until you reach the named number of jumps. > > Ruh-Roh (translated: bring lots of Euros) I am not sure how other dropzones handle this but in Zweibrücken there are no additional cost involved: you pay a normal ticket to altitude, get a briefing by an instructor upfront and debrief the jump with him afterwards. Suggestions for DZs in West Central Germany

Re-reading my first post I found two errors but I cannot edit my original post: > 30.05.20 - 31.05.20 Actually the first boogie will be one day longer, the correct dates being 30.05.20 - 01.06.20 > 1) skydivers must wear a hard-helmet and gloves That should read: skydivers must wear a full-face-helmet and gloves in the plane and in freefall Sorry! -

Hi Mark, > I'll be getting a reserve repack Repacks are valid for 12 months in Germany. > I'm a D-holder with about 400 jumps. Be sure to bring your original (not expired) license. Also you must have done at least 12 jumps within the last 12 months. If that is not the case an instructor will provide you with instructions what to do on your jumps (Sprungauftrag) until you reach the named number of jumps. > I have the 3rd-party insurance too but that will lapse in June or July. Correct, you need one that covers at least 1,5 Mio EUR. If yours is expired by then you can always get a temporary one (max. 3 months for 20,- EUR). The application form can be downloaded here In Zweibrücken you can get that temporary insurance at the manifest when you check in if needed. > Are there any other requirements? Some dropzones want to see your logbook and the papers of your rig but in Zweibrücken you only sign that you and your rig qualify for jumping. Due to Corona there will be additional requirements but we are not yet sure what they will be. E.g. it is very likely that you will have to wear a full-face-helmet and gloves in the plane and in freefall. Hope to meet you in Zweibrücken, blue skies Olly -
Suggestions for DZs in West Central Germany

Hi Mark, Skydive Zweibrücken (Facebook) is 170 km from Frankfurt but still might be worth a visit as it is a little special: a) it’s a pop-up dropzone that only operates on certain occasions / boogies, the next being (Corona permitting) 30.05.20 - 31.05.20 11.06.20 - 14.06.20 b) jumpship is a Pink Skyvan c) the location is a former international airport which is otherwise closed to public jumping Due to Corona there will be certain restrictions which will be listed on their website the week before the boogie, some of them probably being 1) skydivers must wear a hard-helmet and gloves 2) no visitors, students or tandems allowed (only licensed jumpers) 3) no sleeping in the hangar; if you want to stay there overnight you can bring a tent or camper (electricity and internet is available for free) 4) no food or drinks are being sold on site; no party allowed If you plan on visiting please register upfront online. Although it is not mandatory it speeds up on-site registration a lot. Blue skies Olly Disclaimer: I am not the operator but they use our manifesting software DZ-Manager and hence we will be running the manifest during the named boogies. -
The same is certainly true for DZ-Manager - not only do we offer a free version of our software but also provide free online and on-site demos. For more info see our website and my post above. mySkydive - The new German portal for skydivers DZ-Manager - The sexy manifesting software

We have been working on DZ-Locator.com for some time and there is the USPA website as well. Both probably not perfect for printing but better than nothing. Blue skies mySkydive - The new German portal for skydivers DZ-Manager - The sexy manifesting software

Hi, my name is Oliver, I am owner and lead programmer of net&rights GmbH, the company behind DZ-Manager manifesting software. I will try to make it short, but there will be some text due to the number of questions. If you need more details visit our website, just ask for them - either here or send an eMail to - or apply for our free version of DZ-Manager. Yes, that is possible via the “DZ-Manager Online-Tools -> Booking module”, Read more here See our live demo here The layout can be adjusted to your likings and single modules can be embedded in your existing homepage. Yes, via the “DZ-Manager Online-Tools -> Lifts management” Also they can do so via “Self-Manifesting / POS- or Kiosk-Mode” which prevents people from manifesting without being at the dz, read more here Yes, via the “DZ-Manager Online-Tools -> Account management”, either using a credit card or PayPal (more to come, e.g. SEPA direct debit) Yes, via the “DZ-Manager Online-Tools -> Account management” your customers can print filled out waivers. Also you can have waivers attached to the booking confirmation sent out by eMail. Native Mac OS / Linux support for DZ-Manager is in alpha state at the moment. We hope to have a version available for interested customers at the end of next year. There will be a couple of drawbacks however, the main one being that this version will most likely be more expensive than the PC version. Until its arrival we offer a couple of intermediate solutions like cloud-based workstations which can be used from your Mac as well as discounts if running DZ-Manager via virtualization programs like Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox. DZ-Manager keeps track of a lot of numbers, e.g. the cost of your staff or the flight time of your aircrafts. However it does not (yet) track engine time because nobody asked for that. If you need that you have two options: co-develop such a feature with us, it would be a “community feature” use so called “free reports” which use data from the DZ-Manager database but can also incorporate your own numbers. Those reports can be written by you but we also do it on request. Yes, in multiple ways, e.g. Staff can sign in on the Kiosk / POS so manifest knows they are available for work. DZ-Manager then suggest the member of staff who’s turn it is for the next work jump (make sure all TM get an equal number of jumps) Staff can enroll for jobs in the future via the Online-Tools: “I am available for doing tandems next weekend” Manifest dialogs will only offer members of staff that are allowed to do the job Detailed reports show you how many jumps (and of what kind) an employee has done Certain customers have their own “write invoices for all staff” or "End of day report" functions implemented which create Excel sheets or PDF-files with their custom layout and all crucial numbers If you have more questions or suggestions don’t hesitate to contact me at or review our documentation. DZ Manifesting/Tracking software
Olly replied to Gators1240's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Mr17Hz, I beg your pardon, but that is just not true. As others have pointed out, DZ-Manager does exactly the same thing. But while we are speaking of features that distinguish one manifesting solution from the other, DZ-Manager allows: - skydivers to manifest themselves using chip cards (POS-Mode - named ‘Fastslots’ at one customer’s dz) - skydivers to recharge their account using a credit card on a web site - all drop zones to use an enterprise drop zone manifesting solution for free - skydivers to view their “logbook” and edit data like their address themselves Just to name some ... And there will be a lot more in the future (mobile apps for different phones, hosting solutions, online manifesting, team functions …) But back to the topic of this thread: Gators1240, I think you will have to invest a lot of time writing a full grown manifesting solution. We have been working on DZ-Manager for over 5 years and we are rolling out the software at new drop zones with an average rate of 1 drop zone per month. However the feature wish list has never shortened in those years. With every new customer we get new perspectives and as a result we keep extending DZ-Manager. Sometimes customers pay for it; sometime we do it for free. However if you are writing your software for one single drop zone you will probably come up with the perfect solution for them. Because then you will match their workflow perfectly and no other software will be able to compete with that. And that is also one of the main differences between DZ-Manager and the above mentioned software. The latter one has been written for a single drop zone as an individual solution to meet their special needs. DZ-Manager has been designed as standard software for different drop zones from the beginning. As a result DZ-Manager runs on over 70 drop zones, mainly because it can be adjusted to different work flows. The other product is being worked on for years but has just being installed on its second drop zone. And the reason for that is: it might be the perfect software for the drop zone it was written for in the first place. But it is cumbersome for other drop zones because they are forced to completely adjust their workflow (according to people who saw the software but in the end chose DZ-Manager). If you want to start from scratch nevertheless you are welcome to contact us so we can give you some inside information on the pro’s and con’s working for the skydiving industry (mostly pro’s :) ) After all there is nothing wrong with some fair competition. But you are also very welcome to join our network of partners. We always need people rolling out DZ-Manager at new drop zones or touring the country doing demos. One of our partners is looking into writing an Android app and we are searching for someone to write an iPhone app. We planned to write a Windows Phone 7 app ourselves but would love to outsource that work as well. Blue skies Olly P.S.: Maybe it just my opinion as a software developer, but I do believe that good software can be sexy mySkydive - The new German portal for skydivers DZ-Manager - The sexy manifesting software -
I somehow over read that. Of cause I can recommend a modern manifest software: DZ-Manager Here you can download some info. Our Flyer: English / German Our Flyer regarding POS-Mode / self manifesting: English / German A chart showing how load-list and POS-Mode work together on the same workstation: English / German A sample setup at a drop zone: English / German If you have more questions or would like to register for the free personal version, which has 95 % of the features included in DZ-Manager professional, drop us an eMail. I have never installed JumpRun, but I am a programmer myself and we also install PCs and networks for our customers. I would try the following: 1) Most of the problems that come with older software are due to UAC. People sometimes suggest to just turn UAC off, but that is normally not a good advice. UAC is a good thing to protect your PC from malicious software. The better way is to simply install the older application in a folder other than the default program folder. E.g. use c:\program files.old\JumpRun for your old software. That will resolve most of the problems caused by UAC. 2) Another thing you can try is to run the installer as well as the software itself as administrator / in administrator context. For that right click the application and choose "Run as administrator" (you even need to do this if you are logged in as Administrator, again due to UAC) 3) Then you can try the different compatibility settings for running an application (do not confuse this with the XP mode, see below). You find those on the properties tab "Compatibility" of the apllication (right click application and choose "Properties", then select the tab "Compatibility") 4) If you are using Windows 7 Ultimate or Professional you can download and install XP Mode. That will give you a virtual PC running Windows XP. 5) Last but not least you can use Virtual PC to setup your own virtual machine running whatever Windows you need. Virtual PC can be downloaded for free from Microsoft and is the technique that is used by the XP-Mode. This way you can build your own XP-Mode even if your Windows 7 version does not include the original XP-Mode (although you will need a separate license for Windows XP) Your 64-bit OS should not be a problem as all Windows 64-bit include WoW64 - a subsystem of the Windows operating system that is capable of running 32-bit applications and is included on all 64-bit versions of Windows I hope I was able to point you in the right direction. Until now we were able to get 95 % of older software running using one or more of the described methods. Good luck ! However you could also switch to a modern manifesting software like DZ-Manager, a manifesting software that is on the market since 2005 and is used at over 50 drop zones worldwide. More info about Fast Slots / self manifesting using DZ-Manager can be found here. If you have questions you are welcome to contact Start Skydiving our us, the company that produces DZ-Manager. Thanks for the link, I will have a look at that sample sources. It was my understanding that a speech engine is part of the .NET-Framework 3.0 and therefore comes with newer Windows version at no extra charge. But I could be wrong. I did not think of that, sorry ! We are currently working on new features for Start Skydiving and Justin is part of the development team. He also has an account on our development website. Therefore he is in that database and is manifested during testing on a regular basis. After all he is recovering really good. Do you think it would be appropriate to remove him from the database / the screenshots ? Somehow I would feel like giving him up mySkydive - The new German portal for skydivers DZ-Manager - The sexy manifesting software

Hi, We downloaded your programs and had a look at it. From what we saw it is a nice and useful program. However we wonder if your drop zone uses the audio announcements to inform the jumpers about the status or just to keep the manifester up-to-date. When we added that kind of information to DZ-Manager (see attached screenshots) we did not add audio announcements mainly because customers told us that they would not use it. On the other hand a major European drop zone just told us that they are interested in such a feature. What we really like is the support for the BetaBrite LED display although we could not test it. How much are these displays ? How much effort was it add support for it ? It would make a nice addition to our load-viewer. Did you think of using a text-to-speech engine ? If so what were your reasons to go with pre-recorded sound files ? We wrote an application that used the Microsoft text-to-speech engine 10 years ago and it was horrible, but I heard they have improved a lot since then. Last but not least two things we recognized while playing with your app: - if opening text files via the menu (configuration and help) the application "hangs" until notepad is closed - if clicking the start-button, the app starts the countdown, but vanishes / moves to the lowest ZOrder-position. Maybe both is by design but it is a little confusing at the beginning. Keep up the good work ! Blue skies mySkydive - The new German portal for skydivers DZ-Manager - The sexy manifesting software

Another big benefit of DZ-Manager for small drop zones: the free version "DZ-Manager Personal", which has 95 % of the features of the professional version. And if you decide to upgrade to the professional version at a later point you just purchase a license and go on. No need to convert your data. Find a Flyer attached.
