MOGAS operations - lead substitute additive?

Hi all!

Anyone operating on MOGAS? In some EU countries Avgas is not available or it is too expensive. We run on MOGAS - regular unleaded petrol.

Obviously there is much less lubrication on the engine with unleaded petrol.doea anyone have experience with lead substitute additives on aircraft engines?

I've seen unleaded auto gas used in 172s & 182s for a long time. I've never seen lead additives added to it.

A quick search didn't find any requirement for leaded gas, except in a few specific and rather unusual places (Franklin brand & radial type engines). 

The 'much less lubrication' is a myth leftover from the time when unleaded was starting to be required.

This is/was a big topic on the antique tractor forum I follow. Leaded gas was used to increase librucation on engines without hardened valve seats. A lot of older tractors didn't have that so it was recommended that a lead additive be used if the antique tractor was going to actually be used heavily. This increased the tractors engine life. Aircraft engines have always had hardened valve seats and heads so a lead additive usually isn't neccesary. I run regular unleaded gas in my '48 Ford tractor with no ill effects.
