Anyone Know Leo/Ray Barnes

No I definitely think it's possible they were scammed. The problem is that many banks in chile don't have the ability to link to PayPal which is more secure in situations like this. Cheers, Travis -
Anyone Know Leo/Ray Barnes
crazydiver replied to crazydiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have friends at Paracaidismo Chile dropzone in Chile and they recently transferred money to someone named Leo or Ray (or maybe Larry) Barnes in Texas. They bought a student rig from him. As soon as they did the transfer, they said they stopped hearing from him, which was a couple weeks back. Anyone have any info on this person in Texas? We tried calling, but never answered and doesn't have voicemail set up. The transfer was sent to his account at Wells Fargo in Richmond, TX. Anyone from around that area? Thanks for any help you can provide. Hope my buddies aren't getting scammed. Cheers, Travis -
Backpacking Round The World.. How Do I take my rig?
crazydiver replied to TWPalmer's topic in Gear and Rigging
I moved to Chile a year and a half ago and brought my rig with me. As I've traveled around Chile I haven't brought my rig to the various places that have had drop zones simply because it was cumbersome and I was concerned with it getting stolen, to be perfectly honest. Especially if you are visiting countries where theft is common and you are taking your bag and putting it in the luggage compartment under the bus, etc. You could certainly bring it along, but careful. Many countries, theft is bad even with a crappy camera or your wallet. Cheers, Travis -
I've seen this a handful of times for that reason exactly. Cheers, Travis

My wife and I are moving to Chile in one month and need to secure private health insurance (at least in the short term) for when we arrive. We'll be there for at least 12 months. I'll be doing some tandems and AFF each week at a local dropzone for income so we will need long term insurance that will cover professional skydiving. I've looked at IHI Bupa (kinda pricey), HTH Global Citizen (seems good), and Cigna. IHI Bupa definitely covers professional skydiving if you buy one of the pricier plans. Not sure on the other two I listed. Anyone have experience seeking a private plan for being abroad and specifically anyone who needed coverage for professional skydiving activities? I don't want "travel insurance" as I want the coverage to be considered "creditable coverage" for when we return to the US (although I realize some of the obamacare stuff may make that unnecessary starting Jan 1). I want long term medical insurance. Thanks for any help! Cheers, Travis

I just got an email from the same person. Cheers, Travis -
Well, nothing in the mail today again and nothing on my doorstep. Nor has he replied to my emails. Here is the official Chris Schuster dz.com thread for me to attempt to recover my 1200 bucks. Tell all your friends in upstate NY and Lexington, KY/Start Skydiving area. I'll be calling DZs this week. /cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4455444;#4455444 Cheers, Travis

Just feels odd to me since he is all over social media sites, etc. I can find his linked in page, Facebook, and a couple youtube videos of him. That's why I was reluctant to thinking I was getting scammed. But feels shady. Cheers, Travis

I'm tryin to decide when is appropriate. I am giving him until the end of tomorrow and then its blast city. Cheers, Travis

So, I pay a guy 1200 bucks for a container here on DZ.com classifieds last tuesday February 26. He says he will ship it out Thursday when he's back in town. I email him Sunday, March 3 asking for the tracking number and he says he sent the package but his girlfriend has the tracking number/invoice. That's the last I've heard from him after multiple emails and I have not received the package. He said he would ship it Thursday or Friday, February 28/29. Today is March 10 and I still have no email contact from him with tracking info nor do I have a container on my doorstep. How long before I go crazy and start blasting him on facebook and calling DZs around where his LinkedIn and Facebook pages say he lives or has lived in the last couple years? I've seen a couple videos from him with a simple google search, so he's a legitimate person. Am I crazy to be pissed? Cheers, Travis

Precision was sure busy making Xaos's during that seven month span. Four affected serial numbers. :) Cheers, Travis
