DTOXX 0 #1 August 27, 2002 On an AFF1 jump at my local DZ Sunday the student was "caught" by the wind and hit the power lines. Power was knocked out to about 1500 and he was not injuryed beyond minor scraps and bruises. www.skiosk-esd.com/skydiver.jpg ------- D.T. JDBoston 0 #4 August 27, 2002 Yeah, those power lines can just kind of sneak up on you, what with the fact that they run in perfectly straight lines between tall poles and everything. Joe

My question...Is the power company going to try and collect damages from the student or DZ? Sometimes they do. And the follow-up question is will USPA insurance cover the charge. -tom buchananTom Buchanan Instructor Emeritus Comm Pilot MSEL,G Author: JUMP! Scoby 0 #6 August 27, 2002 Heh, that dropzone is just down the road from where I jump. I don't know how it is over your way, but we'd really have to be trying hard to hit any obstacles.

christoofar 0 #8 August 28, 2002 Is that a prison he was trying to avoid (look at the fence in the picture)? ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Fo shizzle.
DTOXX 0 #9 August 28, 2002 LOL No its not a prison.. Its funny you ask since there is a prison very close by. This is the fence at the edge of the airport... On my first AFF jump I choose a slight cross wind landing in order to avoid this fence. ------- D.T. Holder SIMstudy
ScottCargill 0 #10 September 1, 2002 I don't know about trying REAL hard, but I was just out there yesterday. I talked to a couple of the guys that were involved, including the one with his smiley face in news photo. The Landing zone is a good 1/4 mile north east of where he went down, He not only had to fly forever to get to where the power lines were, but in doing so he passed a dozen spots he could have put it down inbetween. Dunno what he was thinking, but I kid you not he flew that wing a LONG ways to get to that fence line.Scott Cargill Easthillskungfu.com
