I just thought I'd update the list a little. I recently found myself with some time on my hands, and decided to return to Sebastian! If anyone is flying into Orlando on Friday afternoon and needs a ride down, let me know. Florida DZs the week of January 17th to the 21st
a97virago replied to a97virago's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I'll be in Florida during that time and looking to see what's going on, who will be where, etc. I'll be staying in Venice, FL, but I am planning at least one trip to the Deland and/or Sebastian area. This will be my second trip to Florida as a skydiver and was looking to meet people to hang out with and jump. Someone who wouldn't mind jumping with relative novice from the North :) Larry A-43434 -
If you can get a video card, try plugging that in and plugging the monitor into the new card. It sounds like the Video card died. You SHOULD hear a series of beeps. If you do, note them Long, short, etc. And use the link above to further determine the problem. Larry A-43434

The Pro-track, tracks Average fall rate for the first half of the dive, Average for the second have, overall average, and Max fall rate. These are all displayed on the pro-track without any software/hardware required. If you want to see a graph of your dive, you need to purchase the Jumptrack (Software and cradle) and download the info from your Pro-track to your PC. It extends the learning by showing you at what point in the dive you were at what fall rates. For me, my max was at the begining of what I believe was my track-away. Just an update, I took a couple of the tips, de-arching, sucking in my gut, and rolling my shoulders forward and this helped a lot! I'll keep working at it. But it certainly helped! Larry A-43434

suggestions for books about canopy control?
a97virago replied to skyhighkiy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
If you're talking about Basic Canopy Flight, I bought the same a couple of years ago. I believe you can still buy them. There's even one on Ebay Basic Canopy Flight Paragear has it as well, it's almost at the bottom of the page (keep scrolling) Larry A-43434 -
Hi, my name is Larry... ... And I'm an Anvil! It's been three days since I've Anviled. It's nice to see other belly flyers that give the freeflyers a run for their money. Wish I could be there for MOAB Larry A-43434

Thank you for responding with some suggestions. Just to clarify, I DO own the Jumptrack software. That's how I know that my max speed is at the start of my track. When I get home, I'll post the graph if anyone is interested. I just know that tracking well is yet another of our life-saving skills, and anything I can do to improve those is goal #1 for me! I'm a PC tech, and you can BET that everyday I have people (friends, family, people I meet in a bar) ask to pick my brain. Now I'm not arguing with paying for a re-currency jump. I've had to do it many time (long northern winters). However, it is not uncommon for people to ask for professional favors. Just ask any doctor you know how often they get asked for medical advice at parties. Larry A-43434

My first reserve ride was on my 11th. At 4000, I had a two-out side-by-side. Turned into a downplane. Everyone on the ground was wondering who was doing CReW. Just me, the "One Man CReW Team". Cutaway the downplane within a sec of it starting and had my best landing to that point! Larry A-43434

I agree, and that's why I'll get video next time. The problem with what my instructors told me, is that it was quite a while ago. I probably have developed plenty of bad habits in that time. Was just looking to see if anyone has seen this symptom before. Larry A-43434

Lately I've been logging my jumps with a pro-track and been seeing some outrageous freefall speeds. Now bear in mind, I am a belly flyer! On my last 2 jumps, I hit max fall rates of about 160mph. When I looked at my pro-track, it appears that I am getting these speeds in a track. I had assumed that in a track my fall rate would be less as I would be converting some of it to Horizontal. Or am I way off? I'm afraid that I'm not getting near the separation I should because my track isn't as good as it should be. Now my question, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? I'm gonna try and get some video this weekend and see that I'm doing. Any other suggestions? Larry A-43434

Let me just caution on butt-slide landings. I had on last year that instead of sliding, I got dumped right on my ass. Fractured my tailbone. The problem with buttslides is you can't PLF from one. My opinion: I'd rather PLF! Larry A-43434
