outrageousphoto 0 #1 February 13, 2005 Hey all, Thanks to a friend of mine I have this unfullfilled wish to learn skydiving. Well, herein lies a slight problem. I'm a bit of a heavy set guy (read: fatass). Currently I am at 282 lbs. I have started trying to lose weight, but it's not exactly flying off. Currently I live in Holland, but September 2006 I'll be in the US for about a month due to holidays, wedding and photosnapping all around. So I have a year and a half to lose 45 lbs and to save up for the trip and if all goes well, the course. What are my options? Should I stay on the ground and shoot landing pix the rest of my life, or is there a chance I can be stepping out of an airplane any time soon. My goal would be losing about 20kg (about 45lbs), but will that be enough? I am not looking into doing a tandem jump first to see "if I like it" but I'm looking into actually learning and getting my papers. Any help would be great! bigbearfng 18 #2 February 13, 2005 If you get down to 245lbs then you should be good to go for AFF at most DZs. Perris states max 245lb. If you're still over it can be done; there's quite a few folk on here that have, but it'll take some shopping for DZs. Also I beleive one really big guy had to buy his own gear before AFF1. But where theres a will, there's usually a way. I'm sure the bigger folk will be jumping in here with their experiences soon....

jumpdoc 0 #4 February 14, 2005 IF you are serious, you need to check out Gold Coast Skydivers in Moss Point, Mississippi...it would take serious work to get through AFF in a weekend or two, but the weather is nice for jumping pretty much year round, and I know there have been some "bigger" people put through AFF. Give Mike and Leann a call and see if they can accomodate you. http://www.goldcoastskydivers.com
