I bought a used R-Max 148 about a yearl))l ago; it had several repacks but no deployments. I was looking for a reserve at that time, and it was the only option available from a local jumper whom I knew personally, so I decided to go for it (although I had some concerns, since there is not much feedback about this canopy).

Yesterday I had a chance to test it. I was doing a 4-way belly jump, pulled at 4000 feet and had a high-speed malfunction (pilot chute in tow). I did my emergency procedures and saw the reserve canopy above me almost right away. The opening was fast and on heading.
The canopy flied well and the flare was better than I expected.
The wing load was 1.25-1.3.

This was my first malfunction so I have nothing to compare it with, but my experience with R-Max was good. I'd recommend this canopy to my friends.

Deployed by RSL after breakaway in basically a completely horizontal orientation after a violently spinning mal on my Samurai 120. The R-Max 148 loaded a bit under 1.4:1 opened quick and without any drama. I literally have no complaints about this canopy; it performed exactly as expected. Excellent value for the money.

My R-Max reserve is the BEST, and I mean BEST, investment that I have ever made. This baby opened on heading, fast, but not painful, the glide was amazing and the flare was something that I cant say enough GREAT things about. I guess if I had to choose a word it would be POWERFUL. I have built and tested my own parachutes for a very long time, so I know what I'm talking about when I say that a canopy is great. I would recommend this reserve to my own children! Did I mention that it is built like a Frigg'en tank? The construction is amazing. Precision, You did it right when you built this reserve. It's a shame that Im only able to give it "5 stars" on this website. You deserve 10 STARS! Great reserve.

(R-Max 188)This reserve rocks, it saved my life and was fun to ride. No problem with the flare. I just had a bigger canopy to ride. Past experience was a Para-Flite swift plus 225. I will definitely by another one.

I tested this canopy when it was first released in 2004. Made many test jumps with it and was very happy at the time. Since then I have not flown it because I have had no reserve rides (10,000 jumps with only 2 Malfunctions ever, thanks to my Xaos for its awesome openings, I never have to use my R-max) However, recently I had my 2nd Malfunction and had the opportunity to cut away and use the R-max again. And after 4 years I still find myself very pleased with this parachute. The fast but not hard openings and its performance. A great reserve, with reinforcements throughout the entire wing making it a very strong and reliable canopy. I also had a very soft landing thanks to the great flare that the canopy has. I would recommend this reserve canopy to everyone.
