A bit of background - I've never jumped "new" gear before. I've always been on used containers until this last saturday when I jumped a shiny new rental rig while traveling. The rig had actually only ever had one reserve pack last month. On a jump went to pull and actually had my hand slip off the handle from how well stuck the pilot chute was in the BOC. I went back for one more try and pulled like I meant it and the darn thing came out. But on the ground I brought it up to the S&TA. This was a rental so I wanted to make sure no brand new jumpers got a nasty surprise out of it (The hard pull + an unexpected extra long snivel had me under canopy lower than I'd like). They seemed to think it was essentially "normal"? I have never had to pull anywhere near this hard to deploy before. On my next jump on the same rig I ended up even slightly messing up my body position on deployment from bracing to pull the pilot chute out. What do you think? I want to ask the hive mind of experience here. Does this sound 'safeish' and 'normal'?

Hi, I'm experiencing quite weird behavior of my x-fire 124ft during full flight. Canopy is constantly wobbling around and sometimes it looks pretty scary. During the first several times my assumption was that turbulence is pretty hard but then I've realized that other skydivers aren't experiencing the same issue. So I've decided to jump and record behavior of my canopy in order to investigate the issue. Here you can see one of the jumps. What I can see is that PC is still inflated and it's pretty tense, so maybe this is part of the issue. What do you think? Additional information. Canopy have around 50 jumps This is my 5th or so jump on this type of canopy WL is 1.58 This is not just happening near the ground One more time link to the video Thanks

I don't know if this is a topic that has ever been discussed, but i wanted to bring it up because I haven't came across any post. I've read plenty of articles debating a variety canopy flight and deployment characteristics, but nothing about altitude loss. I'm particularly interested in talking about the snivel/altitude loss of canopies. I understand it's nothing serious to consider when skydiving because the deployment altitude is higher than base jumping per say. However, it's something i'm personally interested in learning about and wanted to see if anyone else had any input? I've read articles about the Pilot or Safire 3 having severe snivel characteristics, so how does that relate to altitude loss? - Is a snivel characteristic correlated to altitude loss? - Is a hard opening caused by the canopy opening quicker, thus losing less altitude? Interested to see if anyone has any input?
