HELP! Anyone that was around Zhills 2003-2005
StoppieJoe replied to StoppieJoe's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, probably -
I know this is a serious long shot… Anyone who was at Skydive City, ZHills in the 2003-2005 timeframe.. I made my first tandem there when I was around 7 or 8 years old. I believe it was January of 2004 but I could be off by a year in either direction. I am trying to find the person who shot outside video on that jump in the hopes that MAYBE they still have the original floating around. I lost the video over the years and would really like to have it. All I have left of it is this picture. Dad only remembers his first name: Mike. If anyone was around in that time period and could help me figure out who it was and how to get in contact, that would be amazing.

Anyone jumping one of these? Full frame sensor, mirrorless, 40fps, stabilization, fast/accurate autofocus… seems like a great option.

I have created a discord community for skydivers as a way to create a DZ.com style community on a more modern platform. Everyone is welcome to join! There are very similar categories for posts as well as voice channels to hang out in. if you use discord, come check it out! https://discord.gg/U3ZxGbdzUt

I am pretty proficient on my belly and I've been wanting to learn to fly video. I'eve started taking the camera step on random fun jumps around the DZ to practice and its been going well, but I was wondering if there were any tips and tricks as far as what to practice specifically? Drills? Suit Recommendations? Where do I start? I'm about 210 out the door. My eventual goal is Tandem video. Thanks for the help!

My 2018 went as follows: March: Finally finished my A license June: B license September: Got my new Vector October: Jump 100 December: Got my Senior Riggers Ticket It has been an awesome year full of growth, friendship, and accomplishment. I can’t wait for 2019 as my first official year of my rigging career. I did jump 100 today. It was cold and pretty cloudy so I just did a hop n pop because I’ve been waiting to make this jump for over a week... as you can imagine, I just wanted to jump. Woohoo!! Yep, fully cocked and had a good throw. Like I said, I was able to pick the rig up by the bridle with the container open. It just got stuck. The PC is brand new and it looks, and feels awesome. This really was a simple “I’m a dumb ass” moment. Once I have a properly sized main, I’ll be okay. OR im just gonna wait until I get a 170 lol Carpe Diem, Even if it kills me -- "Dead Poet's Society" "Are you getting into trouble over there?" --- "Nothing that I'm going to admit to!" ____________________________________

This is an odd result. After 8 seconds you are nearly at terminal. Add a couple of seconds of hesitation and you are at terminal. Your pilot chute should have generated well in excess of 50 pounds of pull at that point, more than enough to extract even the most obstinate bag. It may be that your analysis is correct, but I would also be looking at other possibilities to keep from getting similar results with a smaller canopy. --Mark I packed the rig back up and opened it on the ground. Pin came out fine and the flaps opened fine but I was able to pick the rig up and bounce it a few times by the bridle with an open container before the d bag would come out. I’ve inspected the rig and all of the components and it all checks out and looks normal. I willing say, however, that was the most comfortable canopy ride Ive ever had had. I’m in love with his rig and can’t ant wait to get it back online with a properly sized main. So.... I did it. And now I will say from this experience: not a good idea for a vector. It closed fine and looked fine and pin pressure was okay but it was solid and tight. Did a hop n pop and gave it an 8 second delay before I pitched. I had a PC in tow AFTER the container opened. It was just stuck in the container. took 2 elbows to the side of the rig to get it out. After that it was a beautiful opening but with that much of a hesitation, I’m not jumpin it again until I have a 170 to put into it. Yes, it is "ok" to do this. It is what most people do when ordering new gear these days. And most container manufacturers will recommend this combo if you ask them. Generally when they call it "full" that is your warning not to go any larger. If you are a new packer and you have a new main canopy to pack into it you will wish you had a larger container. I've seen many people in this situation just give up and hire a packer, at least until the canopy is broken in. If possible give yourself a break and avoid the "full" container. But it is not unsafe to fill it to the top end of the recommendation. If in doubt consult Aerodyne. My question here is this: if your reserve isnt stuffed to “full” could you get away with one size bigger than “full” in the main tray. For example: a vector v349 with an OP193 (which manufacturer says is “standard” not “full”) would it be unsafe or damage the container putting a Sabre 2 190(which is one size bigger than ”full”) in it for

So I am 4 jumps away from my 100th and I have no idea how to celebrate it. I know I will get pied. I have had to accept that reality. The DZ I’m at doesn’t allow naked jumps anymore so I want to plan something special. What are some ideas? His family doesn’t want his name out there at all. I’m not sure why that is but i am trying to respect their wishes. Billvon asked me if I would like him to edit the post so it should be gone soon. I believe Billvon is going to edit the post for me. Again, I apologize. I didn’t know. Carpe Diem, Even if it kills me -- "Dead Poet's Society" "Are you getting into trouble over there?" --- "Nothing that I'm going to admit to!" ____________________________________

I’m sorry. I meant absolutely no harm by it. I am trying to edit or delete this post but it doesn’t seem to be an option for me. Again I apologize. Everyone who has the opportunity should come out to Skydive Pepperell, July 19-22 for Barefoot boogie. We will have a twin otter, a skyvan, and a helicopter turning loads all weekend. We have 4/8 way scrambles, all level accuracy comp, and you can watch Bobby Goldmans group doing 40 ways. Huge BBQ Friday night and an even bigger pig roast Saturday night not to mention Bonfires every night and live music all weekend. It’s going to be a boogie to remember. Safire 2 vs Safire 3 vs Sabre 2
StoppieJoe replied to StoppieJoe's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I’ve flown the Safire 2 and the Sabre 2. Going to be searching for a 190 soon and wanted to know how the Safire 3 compares? Anyone flown it? I’ve heard it’s more docile than the other two and has a shorter recovery arc... is that true? Which one of these platforms would best prepare me to go to a crossfire in a few hundred jumps? I also turned away when he reached about 100 ft. I knew what was going to happen and I heard the sound quite clearly as it echoed off of the rocks. I’m so so so happy I didn’t be keep watching for the impact. One of the the hardest things about it in the beginning was the fact that when I saw him pitch and start spinnng, I got excited because I had also never watched a cutaway frim start to finish. I thought “it’s rick, he’s got this, awesome I get to seen EPs in person.” And then it very quickly hit me that I wasn’t going to see them work. I’ve made 15 jumps since the incident and it’s getting easier but it’s still so rough. It fucked me up. It’s not really a fear in the sense of “I’m scared to go skydive”. I’m perfectly fine once I get on the plane. It’s more the flashback of what i saw that is lingering creating an extremely uneasy feeling that i can only call “fear”. My question is less about fear of the sport and more about dealing with the mental image of my friend riding a reserve pc all the way in. The image and sound is what i am having trouble getting over. I guess I could probably say I have a small amount of gear fear because of it. I have always been told “trust your gear, your eps will work” and then I watched it not work. As much as I remind myself that what happened was a 1 in a million accident, and that most of the time it will work and I will be fine as long as I stack all f the odds in my favor and don’t royally fuck up. But still that image persists in my head. Being around this sport since I was 3 years old means I’ve known people who have gone in. I’ve been on the dz when things have happened before. I’ve just never witnessed it until 5 months ago. Lol I love Brian and have asked him this same question in person. What I am looking for is more of how people deal with it on the ground, when you’re not jumping. I’m wanting advice from personal experience, not psychological training for when I am in the air. The ground time, when I am actually in my head, is what is getting to me, not the jumps.
